Shock in Paleto Bay: Off-duty Blaine County deputies’ misconduct leads to resignations

A typical evening took a dramatic turn when emergency services received a call reporting concerning behavior at the Black Woods Saloon located in the 900 block of Duluoz Ave. in Paleto Bay last week. An anonymous caller claimed that four patrons, who boldly proclaimed to be law enforcement, were causing a ruckus—one of them allegedly drinking to excess.

Sources tell Weazel News that four off-duty Blaine County Sheriff’s Office deputies were hanging out at the local bar while still displaying their firearm magazines and handcuffs, while clearly drinking.

Eyewitnesses tell us the individuals became belligerent and hostile toward responding law enforcement.

In a news release, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it is investigating the incident involving the four off-duty deputies. They added that two of the four personnel involved, identified as Senior Deputy Andrew Warren and Probationary Deputy Katie Shelby, have resigned and are no longer employed by the department following this incident.

Local residents and community members expressed their concerns about the incident. “It’s shocking to see this kind of behavior in our community, especially in public. It’s not about the drinking; it’s about how you present yourself when you are having a good time. As sheriff’s deputies, we expect them to uphold the law, not flaunt it,” said Paleto Bay resident Ashley Daniels.

As the investigation is ongoing, the department stated that it is committed to transparency and safety for all residents and visitors and will not draw any conclusions until all facts and circumstances are known.

“This is a very serious matter. The department needs to investigate this from start to finish. There is nothing wrong with going out to grab a drink with coworkers after a shift, but doing so with your duty equipment visible is not acceptable,” said community activist William Jackson.

Weazel News has reached out to the San Andreas Law Enforcement Council for comment but has not yet heard back.

This incident comes just weeks after another scandal of misconduct in the sheriff's office.
