The San Andreas State Police announced that they recently moved forward with a technology overhaul. While the majority of the San Andreas Government has been shut down, state police executives say they have been working to ensure that this "down time" does not go to waste.
The technology upgrades are specific to the state police's new state-of-the-art patrol vehicles. Weazel News recently learned that state troopers were not given adequate two-way radio radio systems or computer equipment to integrate with local law enforcement. This was compounded by the hasty establishment of the new state police agency which occurred earlier this year.
A state trooper who wished to remain anonymous said that he unknowingly "let go" a subject with a warrant after the computer system in his patrol vehicle refused to load. Other officers have said that communication with local police is "nearly impossible" especially in remote locations like the Chiliad Wilderness.
Thankfully, it is apparent that state police executives listened to feedback and decided it was time to give their officers the equipment they needed. The improvements include new two-way radios, upgraded computers, and long-range antennas.
Due to the current shutdown, state police mechanics were told to stay home. This created a minor roadblock for state police leadership, who had to contract out this much-needed upgrade. After completing the government bid process, they selected Beekers Garage & Parts to carry out this much-needed project. They also confirmed that the project was carried out without issue.
Weazel News could not obtain any information regarding the price or cost of this project. That being said, state officials have sent out messages assuring the public that it shouldn't have any major impact on this year's budget. Taxpayers have raised concerns over whether or not this was executed properly.
According to law enforcement expert Christopher Wallace these changes are important and needed.
"Back in my time with the LSPD, the radios were garbage. Interop communication abilities were next to none and put a lot of lives in danger. I'm glad to see this upgrade being done."
