A car fire on the northbound 13 Freeway at the I-4 split sparked a significant emergency response late Thursday night. The blaze quickly spread to nearby brush, and smoke from the fire caused visibility issues, prompting authorities to close the northbound lanes for safety.
Troopers from the San Andreas State Police were on routine patrol when they spotted the fire burning in the distance and quickly responded to the scene.
Firefighters arrived shortly after receiving reports of the incident from the state police. Upon arrival, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, and the blaze began to spread to nearby vegetation.
Due to the extent of the fire and smoke, San Andreas State Police and SanTrans officials closed all northbound lanes of the 13 Freeway, diverting traffic onto the I-4 for several hours.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by officials from San Andreas Fire and EMS.
