A Los Santos police officer was shot and killed late Wednesday after responding to reported suspicious activity in a multi-story parking garage in the 2100 block of Vespucci Ave. in Downtown Vespucci.
According to law enforcement sources, the officer responded to a call regarding suspicious activity in the parking structure. The officer described only as a female, encountered a possible suspect and radioed for backup multiple times before shots were fired.
The injured officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her critical injuries. Additional officers responded to the scene and began investigating what led up to the shooting.
An eyewitness at the scene expressed concern over the lack of immediate support for the downed officer. “I saw her trying to handle the situation on her own for way too long,” said Joe Sanchez.
Another witness, who wished to remain anonymous, echoed this sentiment. “It felt like forever before we heard sirens. She was so brave, but it’s scary to think she was out there alone like that,” they told Weazel News.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, allegedly stole the officer's vehicle and fled the scene, initiating a high-speed chase that crossed county lines. Authorities pursued the vehicle for many miles, with the chase reportedly becoming increasingly dangerous as it progressed.
The pursuit ended near the Los Santos County and Blaine County border, where law enforcement was able to subdue the suspect during a second officer-involved shooting.
In the aftermath of the incident, police were seen collecting several shell casings and an empty magazine from the scene, indicating the severity of the confrontation.
